Retort packages are bringing new convenience to consumers and contributes to a rapid growth for truly innovative packages types.
Recently, pre-cooked rice packaged in pouches, is starting to appear on European and American markets. Consumers like the new rice packages for many reasons: first of all they appreciate the usability of such packaging, the easy opening (there are "no sharp edges") and the portability. Moreover, microwavable pouches can be heated in the microwave oven, making food in pouches easier for consumers to prepare.

But many other advantages make food processing companies prefer pouches to other retort packages such as cans:

  • high shelf life (similar to cans, when film is aluminum coupled);
  • price of pouches is lower then the price of cans;
  • reduced thermal treatment (thanks to the flat profile of the package that allows faster heat penetration) and consequent enhanced product quality.
